TORONTO, ON – January 10, 2012 – Thomson Reuters released its Mergers & Acquisitions Review: Legal Advisors - Full Year 2011, which ranks law firms for their involvement in announced transactions. In 2011, Gowlings ranked fourth for the number of announced Canadian M&A deals, having advised on 75 transactions with a total value of approximately US$7.8 billion. These deals involved clients a variety of industries, including, among others: mining, energy, infrastructure, financial services and technology.
In a year when many major firms saw a decrease in M&A activity, Gowlings’ deal count increased significantly, solidifying its place in the top four law firms for number of deals.
“M&A is one of the areas that has been targeted for aggressive growth by the firm, and the 2011 league table rankings demonstrate our continued success in these efforts,” said Stephen Pike, Gowlings’ Firm Managing Partner, External. “We have excelled at assembling multidisciplinary teams of lawyers from across the firm to produce outstanding results for our clients, not only in marquee multibillion-dollar transactions but also in numerous transformational domestic and cross-border public and private M&A transactions at every level, especially in the mid-market. We are well positioned for continued success in this area in 2012."
