Gowlings partner Susan Abramovitch, one of Canada’s top entertainment lawyers, has been recognized among Toronto’s 50 Most Influential People in 2012 by Toronto Life magazine.

The exclusive list, revealed in the magazine’s December issue, comprised notable individuals from various sectors — culture, politics, business, media, arts, sports and science — who have had the greatest impact on the city this year, either publicly or behind the scenes. Others in the top 50 included Mark Carney, Heather Reisman, David Mirvish, Margaret Atwood, Amanda Lang and José Bautista.

Abramovitch, who serves as national leader of the Gowlings Entertainment Law Group, is described in the magazine as Toronto’s “most sought-after entertainment lawyer…dispensing legal advice to individuals and companies both large and small…and acting as a de facto agent, brand manager and chief confidante.” The article also states that she is “at the fore of the ever-evolving digital rights realm” and “negotiates massive cross-border, cross-platform deals that set the tone for the music industry.”

For nearly two decades, Abramovitch has been a trusted legal and business adviser to prominent clients in every aspect of the entertainment industry — from music, film, television and live theatre to multimedia, video gaming, branded entertainment and book publishing. She is recognized by the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory as a leading entertainment lawyer, and her expertise includes advising on deal terms and structures, counselling on international industry standards, drafting and negotiating entertainment-related agreements, resolving disputes, and managing the acquisition of rights agreements.

The complete list of Toronto’s 50 Most Influential People can be found in the December issue of Toronto Life, on newsstands now.
