Mr. McCluskey was born and raised in the "Hammer." He completed his undergraduate degree at McMaster University and graduated from the University of Windsor with his LL.B in 1982. Throughout the Bar Admission courses Mr. McCluskey tutored the eventual Gold Medal winner; a fact that has never been appropriately acknowledged by the prize recipient. Called to the bar in 1984, Mr. McCluskey began his career as a civil litigator prior to building his current mortgage enforcement practice.

An athlete since birth, Mr. McCluskey began running marathons at 50, to international acclaim. He is also a scatch golfer and adventure traveller, having played many of the great golf courses of the world and with his family climbed Mt. Kilamanjaro in Tanzania and Mt. Cook in New Zealand.
