(Disponible en anglais seulement) Eric Macramalla is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office. His practice focuses on trade-mark litigation and prosecution, domain name enforcement and portfolio management, and Internet-related legal issues, such as sponsored link advertisements, take-down requests and terms of use.
Eric has extensive experience in the field of trade-marks, managing trade-mark portfolios, litigation and advising clients on their rights in Canada as well as abroad.
Eric is also an arbitrator for dot-ca domain name disputes decided pursuant to the CIRA Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy.
Eric’s background and experience regarding domain names is extensive. Mr. Macramalla has authored a comprehensive chapter on Canadian law for the Oxford University Press publication, Domain Name Law and Practice: An International Handbook (2005).
Eric teaches at IPIC/McGill’s course, The Trade-marks Practitioner, An Advanced Course. He also teaches University of Ottawa law students and master’s students.
Eric is the creator and operator of the Gowlings Internet portal located at www.GowlingsOnDomains.com, which provides a thorough review of all relevant Canadian Internet Court and arbitration cases relating to trade-marks and domain names, while also providing a comparative review of UDRP and U.S. law. His experience and familiarity with the domain name landscape in both North America and internationally has allowed him to assist clients in developing cost effective and commercially practical domain name strategies.
