Gatlin Smeijers

Gatlin Smeijers is an articling student in Gowlings' Toronto office.

Prior to joining Gowlings as a summer student in 2010, Gatlin summered during his first year of law school with a Toronto-based environmental litigator. Gatlin has significant technical experience in environmental engineering and contaminated site remediation. During and after the completion of his undergraduate degree, Gatlin worked with several of North America’s foremost environmental consulting firms on projects for the diversified manufacturing, pharmaceutical, aerospace and defence industries.

While earning a JD at Queen’s University, Gatlin worked extensively with the Queen’s Legal Aid clinic, appearing before tribunals, boards and the Ontario Court of Justice. Gatlin received the Queen’s Environmental Law Award in 2010 for his paper applying systems theory to environmental law and regulation.

Prior to entering law school, Gatlin graduated from the University of Waterloo with a BASc in geological engineering. While at Waterloo, he wrote a design thesis on insitu thermal remediation of DNAPL in fractured rock.
