(Disponible en anglais seulement) Lorne Segal is one of Gowlings' Managing Partners. Lorne and Stephen A. Pike, along with the Firm’s Chair R. Scott Jolliffe, and the Chief Operating Officer, Sharon Mitchell, comprise the Firm’s Executive Committee.
Lorne practises in the areas of corporate commercial, M&A and financial services. A former leader of Gowlings’ Financial Services National Practice Group, Lorne represents both private and public companies, ranging from owner-operated business to larger multi-national companies.
In the corporate commercial and M&A areas, Lorne acts for buyers and sellers of businesses in various sectors including telecommunications, retail, heavy and light manufacturing, mining, distribution, pharmaceuticals, recycling, software, textiles, telemarketing and financial services.
In the financial services area, Lorne represents domestic and foreign banks, insurance companies, merchant banks, private equity investors and venture capitalists in mid-market and larger transactions. In addition, Lorne has substantial expertise in the bankruptcy, insolvency and restructuring areas, representing creditors, debtors and trustees/receivers. In such capacity, Lorne has represented parties involved in the insolvency of Eaton’s, Air Canada, Ivaco, 360networks, Group GT, Teleglobe, Microcell, AT&T Canada, the Ottawa Senators and SkyDome.
