Having served in both public and private sectors for more than 25 years, Marie is well-respected in Canada’s energy industry and has a recognized background in regulatory and administrative law. In November 2007, she was appointed by Prime Minister Harper to serve on the Advisory Council on National Security, and she is currently a member of the International Advisory Committee, Public Utility Research Center at the University of Florida.

Prior to joining Gowlings, Marie held a number of senior positions, including chair and member of the Ontario Energy Board for a combined term of 10 years, president and CEO of the Canadian Gas Association, and director of the Crown Law Office, Civil Law at the Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General. She was also legal director and counsel for the Ministry of Energy and director of the legal services branch of the Ontario Ministry of Financial Institutions.

In 2006, Marie graduated from Directors Education Program and Financial Literacy Program sponsored by the Institute of Corporate Directors and the Rotman School of Management Corporate Governance College. She is also designated an Institute-certified director, ICD.D.
