(Disponible en anglais seulement) Omar Nassif is a registered Canadian and United States patent agent and partner in Gowlings' Toronto Intellectual Property Law Group.
Omar joined the Firm as a partner in 1997 and has more than 20 years of experience in patent matters.
Omar's practice is focused in two general areas:
One focus is on prosecution in Canada of patent applications in the life sciences area. In this regard, Omar has extensive experience in prosecution of Canadian patent applications with an eye on optimizing client rights under the PM(NOC) Regulations, the Canadian regulatory framework that links patent protection in Canada with regulatory approval for drug products. As an extension of this work, Omar is regularly involved in providing technical support in pharmaceutical (and other) patent litigation. This includes working with expert witnesses and inventors to draft evidence in patent litigation proceedings. Further, Omar has experience in providing technical support in cross-examination of opponent witnesses.
The other focus in Omar's practice is on patent procurement for domestic clients, particularly in the chemical, biomedical device, biochemical and pharmaceutical technical arts. In this regard, Omar regularly travels to the United States, Europe and Asia to assist the Firm’s domestic clients in procurement of their international patents. Further, Omar has significant experience in the following areas: intellectual property aspects of major business transactions (such as underwriting of technology-based companies), assisting clients in managing their intellectual property portfolios and providing support in negotiation and drafting of intellectual property licenses.
