(Disponible en anglais seulement) Paul Seaman is an associate in Gowlings' Toronto office, practising in the areas of energy, Aboriginal and technology law.
Paul has experience advising Aboriginal communities, industry groups, and government on the Crown’s duty to consult and accommodate in projects and transactions that impact Aboriginal and treaty rights. He has appeared before the Tax Court of Canada representing First Nations appellants in successful appeals involving the First Nations tax exemption provisions found within section 87 of Canada’s Indian Act. His academic articles concerning Aboriginal rights, consultation and economic development have been published in Canadian and international journals.
Paul also advises clients on general corporate-commercial, administrative and regulatory matters, and has significant experience in the areas of technology, gaming, agri-food and product liability.
Prior to practising law, Paul designed and managed routing, switching and provisioning on one of Canada’s largest cable providers’ high speed Internet Protocol network. While in this role, he designed the fibre optic network for a school board, assisted in the design of a high availability commercial metropolitan Voice-over-Internet Protocol (VoIP) network, and consulted with the RCMP on lawful intercept technology.
