(Disponible en anglais seulement) Roch Ripley is an associate in Gowlings' Vancouver office, practising in the areas of intellectual property law and technology law. Roch is also a registered Canadian patent agent, and is registered to represent Canadian residents before the United States Patent and Trademark Office. His practice focuses on the protection and monetization of intellectual property assets.
Roch's experience with respect to asset protection includes drafting and prosecuting both domestic and foreign patent applications; conducting technology audits for clients in order to determine how to optimally protect their assets; and advising clients on how to utilize copyright, trade mark, industrial design, and trade secret protection in conjunction with, or as an alternative to, patent protection. To this end, Roch attends clients' sites on a regular basis to meet with and interview inventors and executives about intellectual property protection strategies.
With respect to asset monetization, Roch assists clients with drafting technology licenses and development agreements; performing due diligence related to financing of technology companies; enforcing intellectual property rights against infringing parties; and defending clients from allegations of patent infringement made by non-practicing entities, or "patent trolls", by opining on patent infringement and validity.
