(Disponible en anglais seulement) Simon Bliss is a nuclear adviser in Gowlings’ London office. He has extensive experience in international strategy and business development within the power sector, focusing on nuclear power matters.
As part of his role, Simon works closely with the Gowlings’ International Strategic Advisory Group (GISAG), which was formed to provide a strategic and business complement to the Firm’s legal capabilities. The members of GISAG advise clients at the highest level on their international needs, helping them to manage risk and extract value in high-stakes international deals or multi-country expansions.
During his 30 year career, Simon has held a number of senior positions within the U.K. energy sector and has been a strategic adviser to several energy companies in North America. He was previously a director at Lumis Energy Ltd., a company he formed to provide strategic, commercial and transaction advice to the international electricity industry, including the nuclear power sector. While at Lumis, Simon supported and completed a range of significant assignments, including structuring and negotiating a highly complex 30 year power sales and risk sharing contract to support a client investment in a multi-billion dollar nuclear refurbishment project.
While at British Energy PLC, Simon served as head of business development and regional director for North America, where he was responsible for developing the organisation’s nuclear power station acquisition strategy. He also served as director of strategy and business development, leading international initiatives including a number of significant transactions in the U.K., North America and Europe. During British Energy’s complex restructuring period, Simon was responsible for securing a rapid, value-enhancing sale of the company’s 50 per cent share in AmerGen to its joint venture partner, the proceeds of which were vital to the company’s liquidity and successful restructuring.
Simon began his career with the U.K.’s Central Electricity Generating Board before joining Scottish Nuclear as commercial development manager, making a substantial contribution to its merger with Nuclear Electric and subsequent privatisation as British Energy.
