Sylvia De Angelis is an associate in Gowlings’ Calgary office, practising in the area of general corporate commercial law with an emphasis on mergers, acquisitions and divestitures, private placement financings, corporate governance, and general commercial matters.

For three and a half years, Sylvia was seconded to an oil sands developer to provide in-house legal advice. In this capacity, Sylvia has provided legal support on a variety of matters typically encountered in industry including: private placement financings (including flow-through share issuance); debt financing; strategic investment; investor relations; significant asset acquisitions (including a plan of arrangement); project construction; regulatory processes; compliance reporting; document retention strategies; service provider engagements; confidentiality and intellectual property agreements; external counsel management; and employment matters. Through her secondment opportunity, Sylvia has developed an appreciation for the interface between business management and legal advisers and the need for timely, practical, and clear legal advice.

Sylvia is presently seconded to an international grocery retailer/wholesaler to assist the company's general counsel for a one-year term. Here, she will gain exposure to the legal and business challenges of operating a diversified business in multiple jurisdictions.
