Alan Jochelson is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office, practising in the areas of corporate finance and corporate and commercial transactions with a particular emphasis on mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, reorganizations and financings. Alan acts regularly in respect of cross-border and private and public market transactions. He has specific industry knowledge and expertise in the energy and power areas and related industries.

Alan regularly provides Boards of Directors with strategic counsel in the context of material transactions and normal course corporate governance matters.

For more than 10 years Alan has held various law firm leadership positions within national and regional management committees, departments, practice groups and client teams. 

Alan is an astute business lawyer bringing considerable business acumen and strategic thinking to clients’ matters with a relentless focus on overcoming obstacles and achieving the intended results.

Alan has sat on numerous boards of private and public corporations and not-for-profit organizations.

Alan has lectured at the University of Calgary Faculty of Law and at the Faculty of Management. He has also instructed seminars and has spoken at numerous conferences on mergers and acquisitions and related topics. Alan has instructed the commercial law section of the Alberta Bar Admission Course.

Alan has authored articles for the Canadian Business Law Newsletter and the Corporate/Commercial Section of the Law Society of Alberta, Loss Prevention Handbook.
