Barbara Gallagher is a law clerk working in the Gowlings' Ottawa office in the intellectual property department. With over 17 years experience, Barbara has extensive knowledge in patent, trade-mark and copyright litigation, trade-mark investigations, patent and trade-mark database searches, and legalization of documents.
Barbara conducts searches with respect to registration of patents and trade-marks throughout the world and investigates the use of trade-marks in connection with trade-mark applications and opposition proceedings. She is knowledgeable about the requirements for filing documents in foreign jurisdictions in support of trade-mark and patent applications, litigation proceedings and is able to advise clients of the requirements for legalization of documents within the various embassies in Canada.
Her primary area of litigation expertise is in the Federal Courts (Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal). Barbara is skilled in the requirements and procedures of the Federal Courts from issuance of originating documents to enforcement of judgments. She prepares motion materials, affidavits, affidavits of documents, documentation related to the issuance of statements of claim, and notices of application, including setting up and maintaining databases for the organization of documents produced in litigation.
Prior to joining Gowlings, Barbara worked as a graduate teaching assistant and in various secretarial positions in government and in private industry.
