Bernadette Corpuz is an associate practising in the National Energy and Infrastructure Industry Group in Gowlings' Toronto office. Bernadette focuses her practice on mergers and acquisitions; power projects; electricity and gas trading, including financial derivatives; corporate matters, including structuring; financing and governance; and commercial and regulatory matters in the energy and infrastructure sectors.
Bernadette acts for a wide range of Canadian and foreign companies in the energy and infrastructure sectors, including local distribution companies, municipalities, large industrial users, generators and suppliers, financial institutions and investment dealers. Bernadette is also a member of the Firm's Climate Change Group. She has advised clients in matters relating to carbon finance and climate change, including emissions trading, and has presented at various conferences on the subject of carbon finance and emissions trading.
In addition to her practice at Gowlings, Bernadette has also enjoyed a tenure as general counsel & secretary to the parent company of one of Ontario's largest electricity distributors and a diversified energy and technologies business. As a key member of the company's executive team, Bernadette directed the legal affairs of the corporation and its affiliates, advising the company on corporate and commercial matters, governance and regulatory issues, and implications of electricity sector legislative initiatives.
Prior to entering law, Bernadette held several policy analyst positions in the Ontario government's Ministries of Finance and Health.
