Boyd Balogh is a partner in Gowlings' Toronto office. His broad practice base includes insurance, municipal liability, class actions and general commercial litigation matters.
Boyd has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario on matters involving contract disputes, property damage, franchise disputes, pensions, product liability, professional negligence, mortgage defaults, environmental claims and municipal liability.
Boyd’s clients include Canadian, American and British insurers whom he represents on both coverage and defence matters, including commercial general liability, directors and officers liability, and fidelity claims as well as advising on ancillary policy rights and obligations.
Boyd is one of LawPRO’s preferred counsel. He is one of five Ontario lawyers to provide coverage opinions and to defend LawPRO on coverage disputes with its insureds. He has also defended over 80 professional negligence claims against lawyers. Boyd also has an emerging accountants and officers and directors liability practice.
Boyd has acted as defence counsel in numerous class actions. His most recent class action file involved the defence of pension plan trustees in a $100,000,000 litigation for damages on investment losses to the pension plan.
Boyd is a Gowlings co-leader for City of Toronto municipal liability matters.
