Bruce Morgan is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office practising in the areas of intellectual property litigation and prosecution. He is involved in all aspects of civil litigation, as well as conducting an extensive intellectual property opinion and licensing practice. He has also been instrumental in developing the firm's Russian and CIS patent practice.

Bruce is a Professional Engineer (Civil), a Registered Trade Mark Agent and a Registered Patent Agent in Canada and the United States.

In over 30 years with Gowlings, he has been involved in litigation in all areas of intellectual property law, has appeared as counsel in the Federal Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, the Supreme Court of Canada and the Ontario Superior Court. He also has an active patent, trademark and design prosecution practice.

Bruce served for eight years as an adjunct professor of Intellectual Property for the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa, where he taught on the subject of patents, industrial designs, copyright, trade secrets and confidential relations. He has also served in various industry and government legislation and policy development committees, advising on aspects of intellectual property amendment. His international speaking engagements have included presentations and seminars for a variety of professional associations throughout North America.

On behalf of the Canadian Bar Association he has served in a variety of roles, including founding Chairman of the Patent Committee, executive member and Chairman of the National Intellectual Property Section, and member of the National Sections Council Management Committee and Chairman of the Federal Court Bench and Bar Liaison Committee. He has appeared for that organization as witness at Commons and Senate Committee hearings on intellectual property legislation. He also served for five years on the Intellectual Property Advisory Committee of the Canadian Intellectual Property Office.
