Dan Polonenko is a principal patent agent in Gowlings' Vancouver office. His practice involves patent drafting and prosecution in the fields of life sciences focusing on biotechnology, health, medical devices, agriculture, forestry, as well as environmental technologies, process engineering, and mechanical inventions. Additionally, Dan provides business-focused strategic and tactical IP services.
A registered Patent Agent in both Canada and the United States, Dan has over 20 years experience in the Canadian Biotech Industry moving progressively through senior management positions into the corporate executive level. For seven years, Dan was Vice President and Director of Operations for two biotechnology companies. During his scientific & business careers, Dan co-authored 20 peer-reviewed scientific publications, several book chapters and in addition, was a co-inventor of six issued patent families.
At the corporate level, Dan participated in strategic business planning, business plan preparation and implementation, budgeting and cost management. He also had corporate responsibility for over 13 years for the development and management of Intellectual Property (IP) portfolios.
Prior to joining Gowlings, Dan worked for seven years as IP counsel and patent agent for one of Canada’s leading law firms and a Canadian IP boutique. Dan has published numerous articles and speaks regularly on IP matters.
