Darren Taylor is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office, practising in the areas of commercial real estate, business law and mortgage enforcement and recovery services.
Darren acts for a number of developers and business clients with respect to their real estate matters. He has represented clients with respect to the acquisition, financing and disposition of various real estate assets including bare land, industrial buildings, office towers and shopping centres. In addition to the acquisition of properties, he advises clients with respect to the development of the properties.
In addition, Darren advises clients with respect to leasing issues and regularly advises landlords and tenants with respect to the drafting and negotiation of leases for various real estate assets. He assists clients on an ongoing basis in regards to leasing matters including amendments, renewals and defaults.
Darren is frequently involved in financing transactions representing borrowers, but also represents lenders. He has acted on behalf of large institutional lenders and also a number of smaller, private lenders. These financings have been with respect to a variety of properties and porfolio's of properties.
Beyond transactions strictly related to real estate, Darren advises clients with respect to general business transactions including acquistions and dispositions of businesses and structuring of business transactions.
Beginning in 2009 Darren has been involved with the creation and operation of the residential mortgage enforcement and recovery services department in the Calgary office. In this capacity he works with a number of national and institutional lenders. This practice area has grown rapidly over the past two years and continues to expand.
