David Law is a partner in the Employment and Labour Law group in Ottawa, and a member of the Occupational Health and Safety National Practice Group. He provides advice, education and advocacy for organizations dealing with labour, employment, occupational safety, workers’ compensation and related matters.
Mr. Law has appeared before Boards of Arbitration, the Canada Industrial Relations Board, the Ontario Labour Relations Board, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal, the Ontario Provincial Court, the former Divisional Court of Ontario, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Appeal. In 2006, Mr. Law was successful in a major labour law matter before the Supreme Court of Canada.
A member of the Queen’s University Faculty of Law, Mr. Law has lectured at the Rotman and Sprott Schools of Business, the University of Ottawa and Carleton University. David Law is on the Board of community associations in Ottawa, Ontario and Ivry-sur-le-Lac, Quebec and is a Director of the Ottawa Food Bank. He is the former Chair of Government Relations for the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario and the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations. David Law has contributed chapters to journals or texts published by the Université Laval, Queen's University Press and the University of Toronto Press. In recent years he has presented papers or chaired programs for Lancaster House, Insight, Lorman, the Canadian Association of Counsel to Employers, the Law Society of Upper Canada CLE program, the Risk & Insurance Management Society, the IAPA, the HRPAO, the CCHRA and the Canadian Society of Safety Engineers. David regularly provides in-house and client seminars on topics relating to employment risk and organizational governance.
