Don McCutchan is an international policy adviser and member of the Gowlings International Strategic Advisory Group (GISAG). Don has extensive international experience, whether it be for clients investing or operating in Canada, Canadian clients investing or operating internationally or international clients abroad, particularly in the Energy and Mining industries.
GISAG was formed to provide a strategic and business complement to the Firm's already impressive legal capabilities, advising clients at the highest level on their international business needs. The group provides advisory services in the areas of corporate and business strategy, industry and organizational restructuring, government relations and lobbying, government restructuring and regulatory regime development, regulatory affairs, public policy strategy development, financing, international financial regulation, corporate governance and security advice, and planning and risk management. Working seamlessly with other Gowlings professionals, Don and other members of GISAG help clients to manage risk and extract value in high-stakes international deals or multi-country expansions.
With extensive experience coordinating strategies with governments and other official agencies, including the IMF, the World Bank and the OECD, Don is a valuable member of GISAG. A former senior official at the Canadian Department of Finance, Don was involved in virtually all areas of government policy and was actively involved in the negotiation of the Canada/U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
Don served as Canada's founding executive director at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). Prior to joining Gowlings in 1997, he was vice president of a private family holding company.
Don is a director of Northstar Trade Finance Inc., and an adviser to Greta Energy.
