Donald Ross is a partner in Gowlings' Toronto office, practising insurance law and litigation.
Donald's litigation practice largely involves insurance issues, especially coverage disputes, where he acts for both insurers and policyholders. He also concentrates on professional liability issues involving lawyers, directors and officers, insurance brokers and accountants as well as product liability claims, personal injury litigation and commercial litigation.
In addition to his litigation practice, Donald provides regulatory and corporate advice on a broad spectrum of insurance issues to boards of directors, corporate clients, banks, policyholders, domestic and foreign insurers, brokers and risk managers. Areas of practice involve compliance with federal and provincial insurance requirements, due diligence, adequacy of insurance programs, alternate risk transfer mechanisms, captive insurers, and the establishment of insurance-related programs.
Donald has appeared as counsel before all levels of Courts in Ontario, including the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal. He also has extensive experience in mediation.
Donald has lectured to both lawyer and insurance groups on various issues relating to insurance coverage, drafting commercial agreements, environmental law and professional liability.
