Eugene Chen is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office, practising in the areas of securities and corporate finance and M&A. He also serves as a member of the Firm's National Corporate Finance and M&A Executive.
He has more than 15 years experience advising companies on initial public offerings, private placement financings, corporate governance matters, securities reporting and general regulatory compliance issues, private equity funds, purchase and sale transactions, limited partnership offerings, private mutual fund trusts offerings, qualifying transactions, shareholder agreements and corporate restructuring and reorganizations.
Prior to joining Gowlings, Eugene was a partner at a large national business and litigation law firm. He has provided advice to a wide variety of business sectors such as: oil & gas, alternative energy, manufacturing, biotechnology and life sciences, pharmaceutical, health care, telecommunications, information technology, mineral exploration, software development and real estate. He is also a current and past director and officer of a number of private and public companies. 
- Counsel to a junior international oil and gas issuer on its $25 million merger with a publicly listed issuer and concurrent $75 million brokered equity financing
- Counsel to a junior renewable energy company in a $4.2 million equity financing with a large European private equity fund
- Counsel to one of Alberta's largest land developers in $56.7 million limited partnership equity financing
- Counsel to an oil and gas company in $2.2 million reverse take-over and amalgamation
- Counsel to publicly listed issuer on a $25 million merger and acquisition of an oil and gas service company and concurrent $9.6 million brokered equity financing
- Counsel to a capital pool company on $15.7 million merger with an online media technology company
- Counsel to various real estate issuers on numerous equity financings ranging from $3 million to $25 million
- Counsel to a technology issuer on a $2.65 million brokered equity financing
- Counsel to a junior mineral exploration company on a $1.6 million initial public offering
- Counsel to a junior mineral exploration issuer on a $1.9 million brokered equity financing
- Counsel to a real estate issuer on a $6 million debenture financing
- Counsel to a mineral exploration company in a $7 million brokered equity financing
- Counsel to a syndicate of investment dealers on a $9 million international oil & gas equity financing
