George Wilson is a partner in Gowlings' Toronto office, practising in the area of business law. His practice focuses primarily on corporate and commercial law, with emphasis on purchases and sales of businesses, financings, distributorships, franchising agreements, and employment issues.
George has been involved in the establishment and wind up of both trust and insurance company operations. In addition, he provides personal advice in the areas of wills, estates, powers of attorney and commercial real estate transactions, including leasing.
During his more than 40 years in the legal profession, George has gained significant experience with conventional and innovative acquisitions and divestitures, including incorporations, amalgamations, reorganizations and work outs.
Representing foreign investors in Canada as well as Canadian investors in joint ventures abroad, George has served in a wide variety of banking, trade and royalty related activities. He has also had considerable involvement with international transactions, inter-vivos and testamentary trusts and trust administration.
George has been an active member of the Firm's executive, having served as co-managing partner, managing partner and chairman of the marketing committee. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1980.
George spent several years as a part-time lecturer in Real Estate Transactions at Osgoode Hall Law School as well being an instructor and, for two years, head of the Corporate and Commercial Section of the Bar Admission Course.
