Gregory King is a partner of the banking department in Gowlings' Toronto office, practising in the areas of business law and financial institutions, with particular expertise in the regulation and governance of financial institutions, financings and restructurings.
Gregory has served as the co-chair of the Firm's Financial Services Group. His most recent activities have focused on advising financial institutions on regulatory matters, including compliance and corporate governance, and he has also led and participated in legal teams in the completion of several major inter-institutional and privatization transactions.
Gregory has acted as the lead counsel in numerous financial institution initiated restructurings for large corporations and has provided advice and representation in Companies’ Creditor Arrangement Act filings, Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act proposals, receiverships and asset dispositions, and other corporate reorganizations, including tax driven distress preferred share offerings.
Gregory's legal and business experience includes advice and representation on matters related to real property. His experience includes the acquisition, joint venturing, development and financing of major projects both in Canada and abroad. Gregory has also directed the preparation and filings of numerous offering memorandums for the placement of equity capital. Gregory's experience also includes litigation representation and litigation strategic management. He has represented clients in most of Ontario’s Courts, most recently in Commercial List appearances in Ontario Court (General Division).
Gregory also advised governments and government agencies in emerging areas such as privatization of government services, alternative service delivery and financing of governmental services.
