Henry Ellis is a partner in Gowlings’ Vancouver office, practising all aspects of business law including mergers and acquisitions, public/private partnerships, financing, and international trade. He has over 30 years of experience in corporate and commercial matters, acting for public and private corporations.

Independent power production and distribution is an area of particular interest to Henry. He advises clients on the licensing, construction (EPCM contracts), regulation and financing of power projects, including run-of-river and stored capacity hydro and biomass projects.

Henry has extensive experience in acting for technology companies selling products on a worldwide basis, and has advised on licensing, proposals in response to requests for proposals, confidentiality and supply agreements, financing, employee stock option plans and international joint ventures.

He represents one of Canada's largest international franchisors in respect of both Canadian and foreign legal matters. He advises on all aspects of franchising, including licensing, registering and enforcing intellectual property, structuring and managing the franchise system.

Within the domain of his corporate practice, Henry is actively involved in corporate reorganizations, commercial agreements, shareholders agreements, limited and general partnerships, joint venture agreements (locally and internationally) and financings. Henry is also experienced in commercial real estate development, acquisitions and leasing.

Henry was one of the initial five National Trustees of the firm and a past managing partner of Gowlings’ Vancouver office. He serves as an executive member of the Gowlings National Energy and Infrastructure Industry Group. Furthermore, Henry is a co-author of the Gowlings publication "The Electricity Industry in Canada", having prepared the chapters on British Columbia, Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
