Irene Stewart is a partner in Gowlings' Vancouver office. Her practice includes financing, corporate reorganizations, mergers and acquisitions, securities, commercial agreements, shareholders, partnership and joint venture agreements.
In her over 25 years of practise, Irene has developed a strong client base relating to the real estate construction, manufacturing, shipping and hospitality industries. She primarily represents closely held and large corporations in corporate and commercial matters.
Irene has extensive experience in the acquisition and disposition of residential and commercial real estate projects, involving the acquisition and development of properties, syndicating ownership through limited partnerships and other vehicles, obtaining regulatory approvals, construction and sale. She has developed a particularly unique niche in British Columbia in the structuring, organization and sale of timeshare development throughout British Columbia and internationally. Her timeshare projects include real estate resort development and houseboat vacation packages.
Irene is experienced in the financing and acquisition of hydro power projects including an analysis of the water rights and land tenures associated with such projects.
Other areas of experience include banking, secured debt and equity transactions, public securities, sales agreements, leasing and property management, land acquisition, rezoning and development.
Irene has lectured on business acquisitions for the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia and delivered papers on duties and liabilities of directors.
