Jahmiah Ferdinand-Hodkin is an associate in Gowlings’ Ottawa office, practising civil litigation with a focus on commercial litigation and insurance defence. Her practice focuses on cross-border disputes, contracts, banking and financing, construction, and bankruptcy and insolvency litigation. Jahmiah also represents the interests of insurance companies in responding to claims arising out of motor vehicle accidents, fire loss, property loss or damage and other related matters.
Since joining Gowlings in 2008, Jahmiah has successfully represented clients in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice and the Divisional Court. She has also worked closely with clients to provide pre-litigation advice resulting in the early resolution of their disputes.
During her legal studies, Jahmiah was a research assistant to various professors at the University of Ottawa notably in the areas of Charter disputes and environmental litigation. Largely in conjunction with this research, she worked in the University of Ottawa's environmental legal clinic.
