Jean-Philippe Riverin is an associate in Gowlings’ Montreal office, specializing in business law.
In the course of his practice, Jean-Philippe is frequently involved in the drafting and the negotiation of numerous commercial agreements such as shareholders agreements, subordinated loan agreements, security agreements, guarantee agreements, shares or assets purchase agreements, services agreements, and licence and distribution agreements. Jean-Philippe acts as a legal counsel for numerous companies involved in different kinds of provincial, national and cross-border commercial transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, business sales, subordinated financing and venture capital financing. During the last years, Jean-Philippe has been particularly active with companies from the venture capital, entertainment, technology and construction sectors, or with distributors, manufacturers and wholesale dealers.
Prior to joining Gowlings, Jean-Philippe practised for an important firm in the Québec City region, where he also articled before devoting himself to business law. From September 2009 to April 2010, Jean-Philippe acted as general counsel, commercial law area, of Sobeys Québec inc. as part of a temporary secondment assignment, an experience that allowed him to further develop his business acumen as well as his ability to precisely and usefully meet the high expectations of Gowlings’ clients. He taught entertainment law at the University of Sherbrooke in 2008 and the course entitled “Affaires juridiques” as part of the administration program designed for construction companies on behalf of the Association de la construction du Québec (ACQ) – metropolitan area, since 2009.
