Jennifer McKay is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office. Her practice extends to all areas of contentious and non contentious intellectual property matters.
Jennifer has extensive expertise in the management of national and international trade-mark portfolios, including registration, licensing, opposition, litigation, availability opinions, transfers, domain names and summary cancellation proceedings. Her clients include international intellectual property counsel as well as national and multinational corporations.
Earlier in her career, Jennifer worked with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office, including a period as deputy director of the Trade-marks Branch and as a hearing officer on the Trade-marks Opposition Board. During her time with CIPO, Jennifer was actively involved with the development of trade-mark policy and practice, as well as the training of examiners and represented Canada at several World Intellectual Property Organization consultative meetings relating to domain names and trade-mark licensing issues.
Jennifer was an adjunct professor at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law for five years and is an active member of a number of INTA and IPIC committees involved with the development of trade-mark legislation and practice.
Jennifer was the co-author of the Canadian chapter of "Getting The Deal Through – Trade-marks" for 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 and the trade-mark chapter of Life Sciences Law in Canada, (2006), Blanchard/Steinberg.
