Joel Taller is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office, practising primarily in the area of product regulation. He advises a variety of clients around the world on regulatory matters ranging from labelling issues to recalls concerning food (including herbs), nutritional supplements, drugs, traditional herbal medicines, natural health products, cosmetics, medical devices and consumer products.
In his practice, Joel reviews product labelling and advertising and advises on the status of a product as a food, drug, natural health product, cosmetic, device or consumer product. He guides clients through the array of steps needed to comply with the regulatory framework that applies to these various products. Joel also advises and represents clients interacting with Health Canada, Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Industry Canada, on issues such as manufacturing and processing, including good manufacturing practices, safety or efficacy concerns, quality control issues, requests for recall and clinical trials. Trade associations have requested his opinions on regulatory changes as he provides clarification on the interpretation of regulations, and often acts as a buffer between a client and the appropriate regulatory authority.
