John Cusano is a partner in the advocacy department in Gowlings’ Calgary office. John practices in the areas of administrative/regulatory and environmental law and commercial litigation with an emphasis on matters relating to the oil and gas and energy sector. John’s experience extends to matters before various regulatory tribunals, including the Energy Resources Conservation Board, the Alberta Utilities Commission, the National Energy Board and the Surface Rights Board.
With respect to electricity matters, John has appeared before provincial and federal regulators concerning market rules applications, transmission system expansions and cost of capital and other tariff issues. From an oil and gas regulatory perspective, John has extensive experience with matters relating to surface rights, natural gas liquids, facility applications, processing service agreements, pipeline agreements and cost of service issues.
In addition, John carries on a commercial litigation practice and has litigated matters involving oil and gas issues, contractual disputes, shareholder and royalty agreement disputes, insurance defence matters, and matters surrounding the enforcement and varying of trust agreements.
John has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta and has extensive experience in both mediation and commercial arbitration. John has authored and delivered papers on various topics to both members of the firm and industry clients. He has also participated as a panellist and speaker on various insurance related topics. |
