John Harris is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office. His practice focuses on drafting, prosecuting and litigating patents in the high tech, mechanical and electrical subject matter areas. John's practice also includes advising both established and start-up companies in the building, maintaining and utilization of patent portfolios. John also advises clients with respect to copyright in computer programs.

As a member of Gowlings’ High Tech Patent Group, John has extensive patent drafting experience in a wide range of subject matter areas including database management systems, data storage systems, data access and business intelligence tools, graphical user interfaces, compression, encryption, business methods, network architecture, computer hardware, digital signal processors, semiconductor design, nuclear scintillation cameras, medical devices, agricultural equipment, mechanical and electromechanical devices.

He is a Registered Canadian Patent Agent, a Registered United States Patent Agent and a Professional Engineer.
