John Iredale, QC is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office, practising in the areas of energy, tax and corporate finance. John is the leader for Gowlings’ Natural Resources Law Group and vice-chair for Gowlings’ National Energy and Infrastructure Industry Group.
John represents Canadian and international public and private corporations in the areas of mergers and acquisitions; negotiation, structuring and implementation of oil and gas property acquisitions and sales, a wide variety of oil and gas operational agreements; leveraged buy-outs, partnerships; licensing arrangements; public and private debt and equity financings; syndications; and international transactions.
John has extensive experience in various international transactions acting for Canadian and non-Canadian clients involving foreign privatization; oil and gas sector exploration and development joint ventures; oil refinery and related infrastructure acquisition; technology transfer transactions with oilfield and chemical service sector participants; together with debt and equity financing transactions on a public and private basis relating to foreign project activities. Project jurisdictions have involved the United States, Russia, Kazakhstan, India and other foreign countries.
He has also represented the interests of oil and gas companies, operating in all aspects of upstream and downstream operations and oil and gas sector service companies. John has lectured with the Alberta Bar Admission course in ethics and has participated as a panellist and presenter at seminars in areas of oil and gas due diligence, international due diligence and corporate and asset acquisitions. In addition, he has been a guest lecturer at the University of Alberta Business School in aspects of professional service firm management.
