John Ramsay is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office. He has advised closely held businesses for over 40 years and technology businesses since 1977, and has written and lectured extensively on the management and commercialization of intellectual property.
John currently serves as member of the examination review committee of the Certification Licensing Program established by the Licensing Executive Society (“LES”) and the education committee of LES (USA and Canada) and is a frequent writer of book reviews for Les Nouvelles, the LES journal. Recent presentations include a Professional Development Session on Dreadful Drafting (non-disclosure, grant clauses and intellectual property warranties) at the LES 2009 spring meeting in Montreal, and the Energy Technology Law course in the 2009 winter term at the Faculty of Law, University of Calgary. In 2009, he made the Canadian contribution to the Patent License chapter and the Anti-Trust Issues in Canada chapter of International Licensing and Technology Transfer: Practice and the Law.
John is currently writing the third edition of Ramsay on Technology Transfers and Licensing and the first edition of Intellectual Property Management Best Practices, both expected to be published early 2010.
