Ken Warren is the managing partner of Gowlings' Calgary office. He currently carries on a general civil litigation practice with particular emphasis on corporate commercial disputes (including shareholder disputes and securities issues), professional liability and employment law.
Ken appears regularly before the Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench and the Court of Appeal of Alberta, and has also appeared before the Supreme Court of Canada.
Although he is very comfortable in a courtroom, Ken strives to assist his clients in finding creative and commercially sensible solutions to disputes. He recognizes the uncertainty and expense that is inherent in the formal litigation process and he prides himself in providing cost-effective, strategic advice. Ken has a keen interest in mediation and arbitration as mechanisms for dispute resolution. He has acted as counsel in both domestic and international arbitrations and completed the prestigious Harvard Mediation Workshop in 2000. In addition, Ken has served as a member of the Promoting Early Resolution of Disputes Committee within the Alberta Law Reform Institute Rules of Court Project.
Ken served on the Calgary Management Committee as head of the advocacy department of Gowlings' Calgary office from 2001 to 2006.
Ken has been a frequent lecturer at the Alberta Bar Admission Course and at industry presentations in the areas of civil procedure and advocacy. |
