Martine Guimond is a partner in Gowlings' Montréal office. She specializes in business law, with a particular emphasis on securities, mergers and acquisitions and corporate law. Martine joined the Brussels office of Lafleur Brown, Gowlings’ predecessor firm, in 1990, after having worked for the Commission of the European Union. She has been working at the Montréal office since 1993 and she is President of Gowlings Montréal’s Student and Articling Program.
Her practice in the securities sector has led her to act for corporate, governmental and municipal issuers and investment dealer firms with respect to public and private offerings. Martine also deals with corporate governance for public corporations as well as registration and compliance. In addition, she offers training to compliance officers, branch managers, mutual funds and insurance representatives.
Martine acts as a director of Mavrix Fund Management Inc. listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange and is a member of its Audit Committee. She is also vice-president of the board of the Québec Investment Funds Council, the Québec division of the Investment Funds Institute of Canada.
Martine is the editor of “Above Board @ Gowlings”, a newsletter that covers highlights of legal decisions, policies and legislation of interest to corporate directors and organizational leaders. She has also authored numerous articles published in Finance et Investissement, a trade journal distributed to the brokerage industry of Québec.
Martine is often invited to teach at conferences pertaining to the industry (the TSX Venture Exchange, the IIROC, the Québec Investment Funds Council, the Canadian Institute, Insight).
