Matthew is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa and Montréal offices. His practice focuses primarily on patent drafting and prosecution.
Matthew experience in drafting patents relates to both mechanical and electrical engineering, including snowmobiles, personal watercraft, all-terrain vehicles, oil and gas equipment, mining equipment, forestry equipment, gas turbine engines, radiant heating systems, power generation, sports equipment, toys, wireless communication devices, optical communication networks, navigation technologies, cryptography, dynamic light scattering instrumentation, and software. Matthew also counsels clients on other patent-related matters, including patent licensing, patentability, freedom-to-operate, infringement, validity and enforcement issues.
In addition to being a lawyer, Matthew has been a registered patent agent in Canada since 2000, and is also registered to practise before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
Matthew is fluent in both English and French.
