Michael Boehm is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office, practising in the areas of corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions and general corporate commercial law. In addition, he has experience representing clients before various regulatory panels such as the provincial securities commissions, the Toronto Stock Exchange, the TSX Venture Exchange and Industry Canada; as well as experience with representing clients in provincial courts for various corporate law matters.
Michael has been involved in tens of billions of dollars worth of negotiated and unsolicited merger and acquisition transactions, as well as billions of dollars worth of financings (both debt and equity) in various industries, including mining, energy, technology, life sciences, telecommunications, airlines, petroleum, electricity and pipelines. Michael has represented a wide range of international clients including clients from China, Mongolia, Russia, Indonesia, Africa, Bermuda, Romania, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia, and the United States.
China M&A and financings are an area of concentration in Michael's practice. Michael is particularly involved in representing Chinese client investment in Canada’s resource sector including representing a Chinese company in China’s first direct to shareholders take-over bid in Canada. Michael has been active in Chinese transactional work since 2006 and regularly travels to China to work with his clients directly.
Michael is co-chair of Gowlings' China Mining Group, a member of the Executive Committee of Gowlings' China Group, and a member of the Executive Committee of Gowlings' Corporate Finance and M&A National Practice Group.  Some of Michael’s representative transactions include:
