Olivier Therrien is a partner in Gowlings’ Montréal office, practising primarily in the area of commercial litigation. His practice focuses in the fields of civil and commercial liability and contractual litigation arising out of business operations and contractual arrangements.
Olivier has been involved in complex litigation matters, including class actions. His practice deals with various areas of commercial litigation including the following: general civil liability; construction liability; manufacturer’s liability; franchise and distribution; real estate, including expropriation; environmental law, with a particular focus on contaminated sites; injunctions, administrative law and extraordinary recourses; consumer protection; and trademarks.
His clients appreciate his skills as a trial lawyer (cross-examination, discovery, investigation, document management, expert reports) as well as his negotiating skills when it comes to resolving litigation outside of court.
Olivier has had extensive experience appearing before most courts and was recently involved in a trial lasting over three (3) months.
He also advises private sector clients on legal and regulatory compliance issues with a focus on environmental and consumer protection legislations. In this advisory capacity, he is involved in litigation cases and is also called upon to provide legal advice aimed at managing and mitigating litigation risks. For example, he has acted for many years for a multinational retail client in commercial litigation matters while also providing legal advice (“in-house” type of work).
He sits on Montréal’s Student and Articling Committee.
