Paul Edwards is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office, practising in the area of commercial litigation and environmental law, with emphasis on oil and gas and employment related matters.
Paul has appeared before the Alberta Court of Queen's Bench and the Alberta Court of Appeal in numerous commercial actions and appeals related to oil and gas matters, environmental and employment law matters, as well as issues of commercial law generally. He has represented a large number of companies and employees on employee law issues, including wrongful dismissal, pension benefits, other benefits, employment agreements, confidentiality and non-competition agreements and employees' fiduciary duties and duty of confidentiality. He has also assisted employers in defending human rights complaints.
In 1990, Paul was seconded to the Environmental Law Centre (Edmonton) under its lawyer secondment program.
Paul’s experience in environmental law includes having helped corporate clients establish programs of due diligence, advising and assisting corporate clients in dealing with spills and environmental protection orders, and representing both plaintiffs and defendants in litigation relating to contaminated land and other environmental issues. In 1990, he was seconded to the Environmental Law Centre (Edmonton) under its lawyer secondment program. Paul has delivered a number of papers and articles on issues of oil and gas law and environmental law.
