Paul Stein is a partner in Gowlings’ Calgary office and leader of the Firm's Insurance and Professional Liability National Practice Group. He practises in the area of commercial litigation with an emphasis on insurance funded defence and subrogation, fire, oilfield, directors and officers, professional liability, environmental, property and industrial claims, coverage litigation, construction, commercial and shareholder disputes.
Paul has appeared before all levels of court in Alberta, various administrative tribunals and the British Columbia Supreme Court. Throughout his career, Paul has served as a panelist and speaker at numerous conferences and seminars on topics relating to his preferred areas of practice. Paul has significant insurance regulatory experience, and served as a panel chair on the Insurance Councils Appeal Board of Alberta, an administrative appeal body created under the Insurance Act of Alberta, dealing with insurance regulatory issues.
Paul has also served in a number of volunteer positions and is currently a director of the Youville Women's Residence Society of Alberta. He has authored and delivered papers on numerous topics of interest pertaining to litigation in Alberta and coverage issues.
