Peter Burn is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office. A member of Gowlings' Government Industry Group, Peter draws on a unique blend of national and international experience in government and the private sector to provide clients with strategic advice in public policy and corporate affairs.
Peter served as counsel (tax and trade policy) to the Honourable Michael Wilson in his capacity as Canada’s Minister of Finance. As counsel, Peter was intimately involved in the process of Canadian income and commodity tax reform, as well as the advancement and realization of the Canada-U.S. Free-Trade Agreement.
Peter has provided advice and counsel to a wide range of firms and industry associations on trade, regulatory and financial matters. He served as a senior executive with a leading Canadian-based firm involved in the development of broadband and wireless telecommunications networks in Asia and Latin America. More recently, Peter has been retained by federal departments to provide advice on potential carbon market mechanisms and advanced technology support programs. He continues to provide strategic communications services to a select group of senior decision-makers in the public and private sectors.
