Phillip Marshall is a partner in Gowlings' Vancouver office, practising in the areas of real estate and commercial law. He was managing partner of the Vancouver office and a member of the Firm's National Executive Committee from 2005 to 2007.
Phillip’s real estate practice includes all aspects of real estate development, use, acquisitions and dispositions. He has extensive experience in multi-unit residential developments and deals with all levels of government and governmental agencies. Phillip has worked closely with the developers of multi-unit housing projects on reserve lands and has created and implemented a structure to facilitate subdivision of lands governed by the Indian Act.
Phillip has broad experience in corporate commercial matters. He is involved in structuring commercial transactions, drafting agreements and providing commercial law advice to business of all sizes. He has organized and led Gowlings’ teams in complex commercial transactions.
Phillip has served as an adjunct professor at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Law, creating and teaching a course on real estate development. He has also taught real estate and commercial law for the articling program in British Columbia.
- Acted for developers of office/retail buildings, in the acquisition and development of the property and in the leasing of premises to major retail and office tenants.
- Acted on behalf of clients in the manufacturing sector who have contracted with developers to design/build their plant facilities.
- Acted for developers of multi-unit residential condominium projects in all aspects of the development including site acquisition, financing, municipal approvals, environmental, disclosure statements, sales agreements, subdivision plans and sales.
- Acted on behalf of clients in the acquisition, disposition and financing of residential apartment buildings.
- Acted on behalf of clients in the acquisition, disposition, financing, development and leasing of retail shopping centres, commercial and industrial buildings.
- Acted on behalf of the purchaser of a major hotel and office complex in downtown Vancouver.
