Richard Grant is a senior partner in the Calgary office, periodically practising out of Gowlings’ London UK office.
Richard has a corporate commercial practice with extensive experience in virtually all aspects of the energy and natural resources industries, including transactions, finance, ownership rights acquisition, access, divestiture (asset and corporate), due diligence, joint venture and participation arrangements, partnerships, international production sharing contracts, concessions and other host government negotiations. Richard’s practice covers midstream, downstream, power, electricity and infrastructure work, such as the construction of facilities, pipelines, product processing, transportation and marketing along with aboriginal, environmental and certain regulatory work. Richard's experience also spans oilsands, coalbed methane, mining, alternative and renewable energy work.
Richard's energy, natural resources and business experience has encompassed significant work in all areas of Canada including the East Coast and the North, as well as internationally in Africa, South America, Asia, and Russia. Most recently, Richard has been involved in international projects pertaining to integrated gas to power, upstream concessions, pipelines, and CNG. Aside from Richard's private practice experience at large international firms, he has gained extensive in-house legal, business and senior management experience with several major multinational energy corporations.
Aside from acting for public and private companies of all sizes, Richard has represented foreign companies and funds on new investments into Canada, Canadian companies to do business internationally, territorial governments, First Nations and foreign governments.
Richard's energy experience has comprised significant transactional, project and finance sourcing work internationally and in all areas of Canada including the East Coast and the North. Internationally his focus has been on projects in Africa, South America, Asia, Russia and Europe.
