Robert MacDonald is a partner in Gowlings' Ottawa office and has more than 25 years of experience in all areas of trade-mark practice, including prosecution, licensing, oppositions and litigation in the Federal Court of Canada.
Robert has worked with various committees in the development of trade-mark legislation and policies. As chair of the Trademark Legislation Committee for the Canadian Bar Association (CBA), he was actively involved in the process leading up to several major amendments to the Canadian Trade-marks Act.
He is certified by the Law Society of Upper Canada (LSUC) as a Specialist in Intellectual Property Law (Trade-marks), and served on the Law Society of Upper Canada’s Committee for the Certification of Specialists in Intellectual Property.
In the past, Robert has served on the National Executive Committee and as the Managing Director of Gowlings’ Moscow office.
Robert is recognized in Chambers Global: The World's Leading Lawyers for Business 2013 for Intellectual Property. Presentations/Lectures:
- Robert is a lecturer at the Advanced Practical Trademarks Course offered by the McGill Centre for Continuing Education and the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC).
