R. Scott Jolliffe is the chair and chief executive officer of Gowlings. First and foremost a litigator, Scott is recognized as one of Canada's pre-eminent trial and appellate court lawyers in intellectual property and technology law. His areas of specialization include patent, trade-mark, copyright, high-tech and product liability litigation. He also practises in the areas of licensing and commercial management of intellectual property; technology transfer; and food, drug and medical device regulation.
Scott also serves as a mediator in intellectual property and technology disputes and is accredited in this field by several international organizations.
With over 30 years of experience at Gowlings, Scott has acted as senior counsel on numerous landmark intellectual property cases in Canada. He regularly serves as an adviser to major Canadian and international corporations, including food, drug and medical device companies, technology and manufacturing based companies, financial institutions, and chemical and natural resource companies.
Scott served as the Firm's national managing partner for over 10 years and during his tenure played a key role in positioning Gowlings as one of the largest and most respected law firms in Canada.
A frequent writer and speaker on subjects related to intellectual property and litigation, Scott is a contributor to numerous intellectual property books, journals and conferences and a co-author of two leading texts in the intellectual property field.
