Simon Labrecque is a partner in Gowlings' Montréal office, practising in business, commercial, corporate and tax law. His practice focuses on mergers and acquisitions, business sale transactions, financing, corporate tax, transactional tax and venture capital.
Simon has a vast experience in M&A transactions having been involved in hundreds of operations in the last 15 years; either acting for venture capital funds, Canadian or non-resident investors on the buying side, or representing the shareholders or the target from the selling side, mainly in private transactions. Simon also has experience with larger issuers in complex private placements and international financing and acquisitions.
Simon has private fund formation experience with the creation of the Azur Real Estate Capital Fund LP and related entities. Simon acted for a vast variety of institutional investors, private equity and venture capital funds mainly in acquisitions, day-to-day operations, divestments, relations with investors and taxation implications.
Simon acts as a corporate commercial external legal adviser and coordinates the legal needs of various clients from a wide array of industries including technology companies, manufacturing and distribution companies, food and processing, venture capital funds, as well as financial services, personal investment, environmental and real estate companies, and various financial institutions. Simon represents publicly listed entities, funds, and private corporations and also supports certain start-up entrepreneurs.
Simon assists in the drafting and negotiation of various commercial agreements for local and international clients. Having a tax background, he also works in the areas of tax planning, trust, corporate restructuring and commodity tax. Furthermore, he participates in negotiations with tax authorities as well as in the development of specific taxation solutions. He also handles legal matters pertaining to pension plans.
Simon is Gowlings' international representative for the Taxand Global Real Estate Team.
Prior to joining Gowlings, he practised tax law in an internationally renowned accounting firm.
Simon successfully completed the Réseau des jeunes administrateurs training program.
