Stephen Carter-Edwards is an associate in Gowlings' Calgary office practising in the area of commercial litigation with a particular emphasis on builders' liens, surety, insurance, bidding and other construction disputes, and civil enforcement. Prior to joining the legal industry, Stephen had an established consulting engineering practice.
- Assist in preparation of memorandum of understanding for a co-generation facility
- Draft contract for provision of engineering services for the developments of a standard compressor package
- Draft EPCM master agreement for oil sands project
- Negotiate fixed price contract for pipeline construction
- Negotiate unit price contract for pipeline construction
- Advise several subtrades on several building construction contracts
- Advise material suppliers on building construction contracts
- Draft agreement for construction of a bioenergy facility
- Draft residential construction and renovation agreements
- Advising bidding authorities and bidders on bidding issues
- Advising contractor on contract for LNG project
Stephen contributed as an author to the Gowlings Privacy Briefing 2002 and 2003. He co-authored and presented “Enforcement of Easements” and “Termination of Easements” at the Lorman Seminar Easements, Covenants and Similar Rights in Alberta, February 3, 2005.
Stephen was author and presenter of “Construction Issues: The Race Against Time” at the Lorman Seminar Real Estate Development from Beginning to End, March 17, 2006. He also presented "Contract Interpretation: Tips for the wary” to the Construction Specifications, Canada, Calgary Chapter, September 2007.
