Sunil Joneja is a partner in Gowlings' Calgary office, practising in the Financial Services Group. His practice includes acting for both lenders and borrowers on bilateral and syndicated lending transactions, both secured and unsecured, with a particular focus on the energy industry.
He has acted on a wide variety of both domestic and cross-border debt financings for acquisitions, restructuring and work-outs, real estate and projects as well as asset-based financings. Sunil also has extensive experience with ISDA based financial derivatives and credit support arrangements. Syndicated and Bilateral Lending:
- Acting for syndicates of Canadian and U.S. financial institutions in respect of credit facilities made available to major oil and gas corporations and income trusts
- Acting for mid level and junior oil and gas exploration and production companies, oilfield services companies and other Alberta based corporations in respect of bilateral and syndicated loans made available by Canadian and overseas financial institutions
- Acting for Canadian financial institutions in connection with bilateral loans to non-profit organizations and trusts in Alberta
- Acting for a major Alberta headquartered design build and construction services income trust in relation to equipment lease financing facilities, corporate finance facilities and an employee loan program
- Acting for a Canadian aircraft manufacturer in connection with the restructuring of existing credit facilities and shareholder loan arrangements
- Acting as Alberta agent in connection with the restructuring of credit facilities made available to overseas corporations with Alberta based subsidiaries and operations
Derivatives:
- Acting for major Alberta headquartered oil and gas exploration and production companies and other corporations in relation to documentations of ISDA Master Agreements and related credit support arrangements
- Acting for an independent power producer in connection with production swap arrangements
Project Finance:
- Acting for a joint venture of design builders in relation to public private partnership project for the design, build, finance, and operation of accommodation projects in Alberta
- Acting for a major international chemical company in relation to structured lease financing arrangements in Alberta
- Acting for a non-for profit organization in relation to a contract for the design and construction of healthcare facilities in Alberta
